Why Making Tax Digital Matters
Making Tax Digital is not just a software change. It is a major shift in how self-employed people and landlords report income and expenses to HMRC.
Instead of preparing everything once at the end of the tax year, you will need to keep accurate digital records throughout the year and send updates to HMRC every quarter.
For busy business owners, drivers and landlords, this can feel like another layer of admin. That is where TaxNex can help.
We make the process simple by helping you understand whether MTD applies to you, getting your records organised, supporting your digital bookkeeping and handling the required submissions.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is being introduced in stages.
You may need to follow MTD rules if you are a sole trader, self-employed, a landlord, taxi driver, Uber driver, private hire driver, delivery driver, freelancer or contractor.
From 6 April 2026, MTD applies if your qualifying self-employed or property income is over £50,000.
From 6 April 2027, it applies if your qualifying income is over £30,000.
From 6 April 2028, it applies if your qualifying income is over £20,000.
Your qualifying income is normally based on your Self Assessment tax return. If you are unsure whether the rules apply to you, TaxNex can review your position and help you prepare in advance.
